Crowd funding for Stepney City Farm

Would you like to help keep Stepney City Farm open and free! I love going there with my son Dylan on a Saturday, to feed the animals and to shop at their farmers market. Great Bownies and a super cheese stall too.
See below how you can join in with helping…

We have therefore started a crowdfunding scheme which will run for the next
53 days (and counting down). Here is the link:

“Dear fellow parents of Tower Hamlets,

I know many of you have enjoyed visiting Stepney City Farm, and I’m writing
to ask if you can help.

The Farm has really improved over the last several years, but from April we
do not have funding for crucial staff, including the Farm Director. There
is a real risk that what has been gained will be lost to us and our
children, and this in a borough which as you will be aware is one of the
most crowded and poorest in the UK. Local kids really, really benefit from
our beautiful open space – as do local grownups.

The Farm gets no state funding towards its general running, and the
recession has meant that fundraising is harder than ever before. However,
as you will read if you click this link, if half of the people who visit
the farm in a year paid just one pound we would raise our target.

Any little bit you can spare would go a long way, and as you will see we
are offering some lovely things in return for your donations including pen
portraits by our talented resident artist, or a check of your rabbit or
other small furry animal by our equally talented farmers.

The scheme ends on February 27th, so even though January is sometimes a
tricky time of year financially the donation you make won’t be paid until
after this date – and then only if we have managed to raise all the money
we are trying to raise. Conversely, if we don’t raise the full amount
nothing will be paid.

**Please would you forward this to anyone you think might be interested in
helping the farm.**

Thanks so much to any of you who are able to help.

Wishing you all good wishes for 2014.

Bessie (Trustee, Stepney City Farm)

Oxford Light, Christmas Market 2013

Oxford_light_christmas_market

Soothe-me will be a stall holder (on Saturday 23rd Nov only) at the Oxford Christmas Light Market, held in St Giles, Oxford OX1 3LD this year.

The market opens at 10am and closes at 10pm. There will be delicious food, drinks (mulled wine I hope!) and Gorgeous Gifts. Carols and entertainment will start from 4pm, so you can eat, potter, shop, potter, drink, potter then be entertained!

Their website states “ Join us in the heart of Oxford for the Christmas Light Festival market from Friday 22 November to Sunday 24 November 2013. With 80 stalls, the festive market will be open all weekend, selling hot food and drink as well as unique art, crafts and gifts.

This year, the market will also play host to a Victorian fairground, our Information Chalet and a new Children’s Area, where there will be the chance to meet Santa and his reindeer“.

There is a children’s area where you can visit santa of course, and I also heard a rumour about a slime maker?!!

If you are a local to Oxford do come and find us, say hello to Suzie and Caroline and for a special 15% off soothe-me goodies on the day whisper us these secret words… “Mince pies in your eyes!”

How to make some one smile :)

Today I received something that made me smile,  on beautiful golden paper a Christmas order from a lovely lady called Barbara Sedassy. Sent by traditional post not by email!  Its so nice to get things made by hands, what a lovely personal touch. It shows that the shopping online is not the only way to shop these days.

With Barbaras note was a beautiful picture of one of her latest paintings. ‘VJ’s Garden’ from a stunning series called Gardens for Jonny. All created in memory of her amazing son and my friend Jonny (Rhythm) Sedassy.

So I am busy looking for my crayons so I can make a little card to send her back. Perhaps this can inspire others to  to get your pastels, do a little doodle, write a little note. Then in a nice an old-fashioned-way post it with a licky sticky stamp to some one you care about and make them smile. 🙂  (pass it on!)

We are what we do!

we-are-what-we-doI just stumbled across this great sounding company and wanted to share more about them, this is from their website  – “We Are What We Do is a not-for-profit behaviour change company that creates ways for millions of people to do more small, good things.

We make stuff that people want to buy or use and which have positive behaviours built in, aiming to reach massive audiences and help address major social and environmental issues.

At the heart of our work is the understanding that telling people what to do doesn’t work. So our creations are things people simply like, which incidentally help them to do more.”

Sleep well Buckwheat with Lavender Pillow for neck support

A pillow with health benefits!
It’s one of the best pillows I have slept on (and I have tried many!). I hand-made it for my boyfriend first, then my friends ordered and as I have had so many positive comments, I decided to make it for other people to enjoy the sleep.

Its a great pillow for insomnia, headache, snoring, irritability, stiff neck and sluggishness and because it can be shaped and moulded to how you like it keeps you in a good position. Also can help lessen puffy eyes in the morning as the lavender helps you breathe well.

It supports your neck, moulds your shape, scented with lavender which is very calming and helps you to sleep more deeply. And its even environmentally friendly!

Makes you want one? Well my friend hand-make them bespoke to order, so for prices and to order please email on suzie@soothe-me.com
